dan, i can’t believe you voted for the futureheads over the buzzcocks.
12 March 2007 at 3:24 am Eastern
let’s get this ball rolling. i will start.
*ahem* oasis my life.
12 March 2007 at 3:42 am Eastern
You voted for Snow Patrol over Pavement, which instantly makes me right about this argument and the next three arguments we have.
12 March 2007 at 5:16 am Eastern
[…] again for anyone who hasn’t seen it or didn’t know there was a video for it yet, …Round 1, Bracket A Nelly Furtado. View Results. The Shins profile Nelly Furtado profile. Eminem vs. Gin Blossoms. […]
12 March 2007 at 7:49 am Eastern
I can’t believe you put Jimmy Eat World agains David Bowie. I’m more torn than I should be.
12 March 2007 at 10:54 am Eastern
See Hayley, I made it.. hope you get a laugh out of my votes!
12 March 2007 at 11:14 am Eastern
I’d be happier if these comments were a little more inflammatory.
12 March 2007 at 12:42 pm Eastern
dan, i happen to like snow patrol! i’m sorry, any band i’ve seen put on an amazing show and that I had beers with after is definitely going to take my vote.
you put captain beefheart in this tournament! who the fuck is captain beefheart?!?
12 March 2007 at 2:18 pm Eastern
HOW IN THE HELL IS SUCH AN AMAZING VOCALIST LIKE NELLY FURTADO LOSING THE SOME PIECE OF SHIT WANNA-BE BRIT POP BAND SUCH AS THE SHINS? Seriously.
12 March 2007 at 2:32 pm Eastern
because nelly furtado is horrible.
stab in the dark there.
12 March 2007 at 2:32 pm Eastern
Jeez, Tarp, is your caps lock key broken or something? Maybe you’ve been listening to too much Oasis.
12 March 2007 at 2:33 pm Eastern
you also have no idea what brit pop is.
12 March 2007 at 2:34 pm Eastern
First of all, Nelly Furtado is one of the few female performers out there that I can actually respect. She’s a little more wholesome than the rest.
12 March 2007 at 2:39 pm Eastern
Um, Popular British Music? Just a thought.
And yeah, screw you. I do like Oasis.
12 March 2007 at 2:40 pm Eastern
wholesome? she has a song called promiscuous for crying out loud.
12 March 2007 at 2:42 pm Eastern
I’m so excited this is finally back! What the hell is up with having to choose between The Smiths and Danzig?…ummm, yeah, some people like them equally.
Btw, loving the new look!
12 March 2007 at 2:42 pm Eastern
considering the shins aren’t british, there goes your argument.
and no, that’s not brit pop. oasis is brit pop, since you mentioned them though.
12 March 2007 at 2:42 pm Eastern
Nelly Furtado whored herself to even get signed. She sucks.
12 March 2007 at 2:44 pm Eastern
oh nin4eva. i have missed you, dear
12 March 2007 at 2:45 pm Eastern
And another tough choice was Sigur Ros vs. Misfits. Honestly, are you guys trying to kill me?
12 March 2007 at 2:46 pm Eastern
i think the toughest for me was siouxsie vs. stone roses.
12 March 2007 at 2:46 pm Eastern
hey hayley-girl! Missed ya too! I still hate Oasis, though, so we will spare over that one.
12 March 2007 at 2:47 pm Eastern
fuck you nin4eva.
OASIS MY LIFE! OASIS NOT A BAND IT’S A FEELING!
ohhh the good ol’ days.
12 March 2007 at 2:48 pm Eastern
Yeah, Siouxsie v. Stone Roses was my next complaint. I’m glad to see Janis Joplin kicking ass and taking names.
12 March 2007 at 2:49 pm Eastern
wait wait wait…you hate oasis but you LIKE the stone roses???
can someone explain this paradox to end ALL paradoxical paradoxes??????
12 March 2007 at 2:49 pm Eastern
Every band in Band Madness > Oasis.
lol. Couldn’t resist.
12 March 2007 at 2:50 pm Eastern
I know. They are one of those sick, twisted sounds I like. I’m very eclectic in taste. I like NSYNC and hate Back Street Boys. Shoot me.
12 March 2007 at 2:51 pm Eastern
Wait, I didn’t admit my secret fetish luv for JT on Band Madness did I? Where’s Trent Reznor when I need him?
12 March 2007 at 2:52 pm Eastern
that’s just so weird.
stone roses, besides the beatles, is oasis’ biggest influence. they have, dare i say, copied their sound nearly to a T.
but the fact that you like nsync ruins all credibility.
steaming pile of shit > nsync
12 March 2007 at 2:54 pm Eastern
Most of my dislike for Oasis is not the music itself…it is the people behind the music. I can’t stand those guys and it makes me hate their music.
12 March 2007 at 2:56 pm Eastern
i want to hear more about nelly furtado being “wholesome”
12 March 2007 at 2:56 pm Eastern
NSYNC rox!1!!!11!1
12 March 2007 at 3:01 pm Eastern
dM vs. Shakira?
Puahahahahahaha, that is sooooo hilarious!! =))
12 March 2007 at 3:11 pm Eastern
I think I’ve accomplished what I started out to do…
12 March 2007 at 3:14 pm Eastern
Hellooo people!!
i’m glad to see the madness is here again…
go go depeche!!
12 March 2007 at 3:19 pm Eastern
Longlive:
Peter Gabriel
Queen
Tears For Fears
Duran Duran
Kraftwerk
Lou Reed
Green Day
Sonic Youth
Brian Eno
Depeche Mode
Coldplay
No Simple Minds, Ultravox, The Velvet Underground (it’s a too difficult music for the target audience? :P)? Anyway, they would lose very fast because the world is full of Shakira and Mariah Carey fans…
:)))
Oh, I can’t wait for another dM vs. Oasis round so I can learn new curses :)))
12 March 2007 at 3:29 pm Eastern
Velvet Underground is definitely in. Remember that Round 1 has four parts. Check the bracket to see the full list!
12 March 2007 at 3:30 pm Eastern
but where is Oasis? where is Nine Inch Nails?
helloo people, glad to see this madness starting again…
12 March 2007 at 3:31 pm Eastern
Oh, and don’t be so sure about Shakira and Mariah Carey fans… they’re both getting crushed. Mariah Carey may set the record for biggest Round 1 loss this year.
12 March 2007 at 3:33 pm Eastern
Helloo people, glad to see u back again!!
we have some heavy fights last year…
12 March 2007 at 3:34 pm Eastern
I really hope the Buzzcocks can make it to at least round 2 this year.
And I said britpop “Wannabe”, suggesting that they “want to be” britpop.
I’m sorry, I should have called you out on that earlier.
12 March 2007 at 3:39 pm Eastern
Depeche Mode will own Shakira here in Round 1!
That is all.
12 March 2007 at 3:48 pm Eastern
hellloooo
nice to see the madness back again
go go depeche mode
12 March 2007 at 3:51 pm Eastern
Okay, so I hate Nelly Furtado. I actually threw up in my mouth a little bit as I was typing that stuff.
But seriously, who are you people that voted for Toby Keith?
I mean, are you fucking kidding me? Over George Harrison? Seriously. I’m not usually one for violence, but I think you may be the one who deserves a boot in your ass.
Really. Please, someone come forward and try to help me understand the inner workings of your brain.
12 March 2007 at 3:55 pm Eastern
Toughest choice so far: Tom Waits over Iron and Wine.
Most embarrassing choice so far: 10,000 Maniacs over Beastie Boys.
And it makes me very sad that Tori had to go up against the Pixies in the first round.
12 March 2007 at 4:05 pm Eastern
tarp, the shins are still far from britpop wannabes. they are nothing like blur, suede or pulp.
and i love you how you bullshitted about nelly furtado.
you’re my new favorite person.
12 March 2007 at 5:15 pm Eastern
Yeah, I know, I also kind of love the Shins.
12 March 2007 at 5:39 pm Eastern
Nelly Furtado is the best artist in the music industry.
12 March 2007 at 5:41 pm Eastern
I hope Green Day loses.
12 March 2007 at 5:43 pm Eastern
Is Nine Inch Nails really not in this? They are the defending champs and all.
12 March 2007 at 8:27 pm Eastern
Great to see Band Madness back. Nothing beats making wiseass comments about music.
A few observations:
Radiohead vs. Staind… it’s like two babies fighting and one happens to be a grizzly bear
Huey Lewis vs. Boston… the battle of who cares
Bon Jovi’s ahead of Roxy Music. It’s gotta be name recognition because Bon Jovi SUCKS.
SOAD vs. Black Flag - Best match of the day
Who the hell is voting for Mariah Carey?
Audioslave shouldn’t beat T. Rex.
Were it not for their last album, I’d never even consider voting for My Chemical Romance.
Who is MC Chris? 128 bands today and I’ve heard of all of them but this one.
Even a celebrity who happens to be blind can see that Stevie Wonder will beat BTO.
Pixies vs. Tori Amos in the first round? Come on! It’s just not right.
The Wrens are crazy, but they are not crazy as fuck.
Counting Crows aren’t great, but if they beat Motley Crue they’re alright by me.
Bowie vs. Jimmy Eat World. Kinda like Jaws vs. Nemo.
Tool gets another lousy first round match, although honestly, I don’t think Lou Reed’s solo work orbits the same solar system as Tool.
Surprising scores for Grandmaster Flash and A Tribe Called Quest. My knowledge of hip hop skips from James Brown and Parliament straight to Public Enemy, so I guess I’ll have to check these guys out.
The Shins over Nelly Furtado. Substance over style.
Eminem is not popular here… I last saw the Gin Blossoms on a milk carton 10 years ago.
The critic in me says Pavement, but I enjoy listening to Snow Patrol more.
Country artists not named Cash don’t do well here.
I’m in favor of getting rid of Depeche Mode and Oasis before their fan sites find out about this site and ruin it for everyone, but against Shakira? No way.
I chose Siouxsie and the Banshees over Stone Roses and in my mind it’s not even close. I like Siouxsie more than any “goth” band, the Cure included. They’re going to suffer from their obscurity, though.
How does everyone know who each other voted for? Or is that just BS?
12 March 2007 at 8:46 pm Eastern
Comparing Bowie to Jimmy Eat World and calling Nelly Furtado an amazing vocalist… Tarp, you’re either very sarcastic or off to a roaring start…
The girl who sings “Promiscuous” is more wholesome than what? A prostitute?
Nin4Eva… you like N Sync. I might shoot you. lol
Nine Inch Nails isn’t in the tourney because they’re the defending champs. What would be the fun of the tournament if the results were the same?
12 March 2007 at 9:18 pm Eastern
NIN should still be in. All the Pink Floyd fans would most likely come back and make sure NIN didn’t win anyways. I just found out I don’t give a shit about a lot of these bands, maybe the other ones will be better. Oasis definitely shouldn’t be allowed in this tournament.
12 March 2007 at 9:20 pm Eastern
hey darren, just so you know i’m emailing as many fansites and message boards as I possibly can to even things out.
12 March 2007 at 9:20 pm Eastern
phillip, nin won the last tourney. that’s why they are not in this year.
not stop whining about it. you sound like the oasis fans
12 March 2007 at 9:23 pm Eastern
This is getting better by the minute.
12 March 2007 at 9:25 pm Eastern
hey harley, tool sucks.
12 March 2007 at 9:35 pm Eastern
Anyone else think Tori Amos is a little bit self-righteous?
12 March 2007 at 9:36 pm Eastern
not at all, I love Tori Amos.
Why do you feel she’s self righteous?
12 March 2007 at 9:47 pm Eastern
Well let’s see, she had to cover how many artists’ songs so we knew what they said to her? What ev.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, she’s got a great voice and enunciates quite well, but her rendition of Happiness is a Warm Gun leaves a lot to be desired, (such as the Beatles version).
12 March 2007 at 9:49 pm Eastern
her rendition of a lot of songs leaves a lot to be desired.
maybe she’s insecure.
such is the case with most covers.
i just like her originals
12 March 2007 at 9:54 pm Eastern
Even though I love NIN, I’m glad someone else has the opportunity to win this year. But, Phillip, my love, they will always be #1.
Oasis sucks, not TOOL, hayley…they suck each other.
12 March 2007 at 9:55 pm Eastern
i said it to get harley here because he was moaning about tool losing.
i told him to get over here and start the insults.
i myself am not a tool fan, but they don’t suck.
12 March 2007 at 9:57 pm Eastern
not even 100 comments in and we’re already talking about who sucks who.
this is rad.
12 March 2007 at 9:59 pm Eastern
you know me, i go straight to the groin. i have this fascination with the male anatomy.
13 March 2007 at 12:13 am Eastern
Darren - mc chris is this nerdcore band that does a lot of the music for adultswim shows.
I’m surprised the JEW / Bowie matchup isn’t closer. I went with Bowie, but it was a tough choice because I listen to JEW all the time, but they left me disappointed when i saw them live.
Did anyone notice that the B bracket is STACKED. with the Beatles, Beach Boys, RHCPs, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, John Lennon, and the Stones? It seems most of my favorite bands are in that bracket. Even my favorite trendy new bands are there Death Cab and FOB. Even my favorite local hiphop artist Aesop Rock. I would say almost 75% of the music on my computer is by artists in the B bracket.
Does anyone else feel the same way?
13 March 2007 at 12:39 am Eastern
“I’m surprised the JEW / Bowie matchup isn’t closer.”
are you serious?
Bowie is classic.
Jimmy Eat World is not even close to being in the same league as Bowie.
13 March 2007 at 1:38 am Eastern
tool will win.
13 March 2007 at 4:39 am Eastern
Oh gee, you people are afraid of dM and Oasis fans.
I bet that an Oasis fan is more unruly than a dM one.
We didn’t ruin the last tournament, we sustained our opinions with solid arguments…
Ok, Velvet Underground is in! What about the other two bands I asked about? Ultravox and Simple Minds. And OMD, A Flock Of Seagulls, a-ha, Mike & The Mechanics?
13 March 2007 at 7:52 am Eastern
You’re right, it was the Oasis fans that ruined the last one. Kidding! But seriously, Oasis sucks.
13 March 2007 at 8:23 am Eastern
jackdkey- I agree with you with Bowie/JEW thing, because honestly I love Bowie, love him. But if someone put Ziggy Stardust and Bleed American in front of me and told me to pick one, I’d take JEW with a smile on my face and wouldn’t look back.
13 March 2007 at 10:18 am Eastern
Won’t somebody please take pity on Mariah Carey? Help her crack 100 votes! I mean, I know everybody likes Queen, but has Mariah’s star really fallen so low? Don’t they like do Behind The Music shows about her and stuff? Poor Mariah.
13 March 2007 at 10:28 am Eastern
Hayley, don’t ever compare me to anyone who likes Oasis. Nine Inch Nails should be inducted into the Bandmadness Hall of Fame. If thereis no Hall of Fame then someone should make one. If Pink Floyd or Nirvana wins I’m seriously considering not involving myself with you people anymore.
13 March 2007 at 8:11 pm Eastern
oh phillip, your elitist attitude has sorely been missed.
nirvana will not win. floyd may, hard to say.
13 March 2007 at 8:59 pm Eastern
Come on Chris, Mariah Carey? What the hell is she even doing in this competition? She pays people to wipe her ass then cries because they were too rough. Sir Mix-a-Lot has more talent than she could ever possess.
13 March 2007 at 9:00 pm Eastern
Psst Phillip, there are other bands out there besides NIN.
13 March 2007 at 9:03 pm Eastern
hey, her movie glitter was wonderful. full of human struggle and triumph.
13 March 2007 at 9:05 pm Eastern
Hey, I’m just saying, have some pity on her, that’s all. Can’t Mariah get a few pity votes?
13 March 2007 at 9:06 pm Eastern
chris there is no room for pity votes and empathy on bandmadness.
13 March 2007 at 9:16 pm Eastern
I’d pity her if I was Mr. T, but I’m not.
13 March 2007 at 9:27 pm Eastern
Tool and the Deftones are losing? Wtf? Deftones losing to Green Day? It’s a sad day in the world when any band loses to Green Day.
13 March 2007 at 10:09 pm Eastern
Because for some reason I need to expose myself to ridicule, I have to say I just filled out ALL of my brackets, and David Bowie beat Madonna in the finals.
The Cinderella story was Neutral Milk Hotel, who made it to the Sweet Sixteen.
Who else had trouble with Joni Mitchell vs. Nas?
13 March 2007 at 10:22 pm Eastern
Also, no love for The Fall, but we get an appearance by MC Chris. MC Whoosawassa? Who even is he/she?
13 March 2007 at 10:55 pm Eastern
“hey, her movie glitter was wonderful. full of human struggle and triumph.”
You’re referring to the people who sat through it, right?
“Hey, I’m just saying, have some pity on her, that’s all. Can’t Mariah get a few pity votes?”
Never. Sympathy is for the weak. heh
Is MC Chris the MC Pee-pants from Aqua Teens? The samples I heard sound like it.
And I really don’t think Jimmy Eat World is inhabiting the same planet as Bowie. Maybe some of the younger fans on the site would prefer Jimmy Eat World (something about typing Jew in all-caps seems wrong…), but they barely even left a blip on the radar as far as I’m concerned. They’ve only been in the spotlight for 5 years and I’d already forgotten about them. Bowie’s pushing 40 years in the industry and his songs still hold up.
Current results I disagree with personally:
Audioslave over T. Rex
Jethro Tull over Muse
Joe Cocker over Jackson Browne (I have little respect for cover bands)
Blink 182 over Supertramp (Seriously? I know Supertramp isn’t widely respected, but losing to a band whose primary achievement is putting the fart joke to music? Ouch.)
Lou Reed over Tool (I like Lou Reed, but Tool is the best band I see losing in this segment of the 1st round, by far.)
Grandmaster Flash over Husker Du
Depeche Mode over Shakira (only kidding…)
Stone Roses over Siousie and the Banshees
Here’s hoping the first round clears out the worst of the riff-raff. We’re one poorly placed message thread from a Panic At The Disco vs. Fall Out Boy championship… lol
13 March 2007 at 11:56 pm Eastern
benmurphying, a better question is who is Captain Beefheart.
14 March 2007 at 10:02 am Eastern
Tool losing to Lou Reed is ridiculous.
It’s LOU REED, NOT Velvet Underground, people. They’re up right now in Bracket B.
14 March 2007 at 11:12 am Eastern
Also, nobody actually likes Audioslave.
Goddamnit, T-Rex, bang your gong and get it on.
Also, not only should Roxy Music be beating Bon Jovi in music, but they could also hold their own against them in Arena Football.
14 March 2007 at 1:07 pm Eastern
I get it!
14 March 2007 at 7:38 pm Eastern
Dropkick Murphys vs. Leonard Cohen - Come on … Is there no justice Dropkick is so much better and has been around for years. Lets push them through people!!
14 March 2007 at 8:51 pm Eastern
Why is AC/DC beating Bush? Thats just not right. AC/DC had one song! Then the rest sound just the same! And Bush RAWKS!
Thank all six of you for reading this,
Rawk Out
P.S.
I hate Oasis
14 March 2007 at 8:58 pm Eastern
One song? More like a ton of songs that pretty much all sound alike.
14 March 2007 at 10:03 pm Eastern
oh, forgot to say, EVERYONE VOTE FOR WHOEVER IS AGAINST PINK FLOYD! I DO NOT WANT THEM TO GET AS FAR AS THEY DID LAST YEAR!
Rawk Out
P.S.
Oaisis still suks
14 March 2007 at 10:05 pm Eastern
oh no, Tori’s losingggg. :o(

Captain Beefheart - 70s Prog rock. Think Frank Zappa without all the blatant pop sensibilities. lol Like all prog, if you like it, you’ll love Beefheart. If you don’t, it will be virtually intolerable.
I don’t care too much for Roxy Music. They have a few songs I like, but that’s about it. This still puts them light years ahead of Bon Jovi, who I flat out despise.
Ripem… you’re either being sarcastic or completely ridiculous when you insinuate that we should vote for the Dropkick Murphys over Leonard Cohen based on longevity of career. Cohen’s been around since the late 60s, early 70s. Oh, and he can sing, which is why he’s better than the Dropkick Murphys.
Even if I buy the premise that AC/DC only has one song that they repeated over and over (fairly accurate, but not completely true and it’s not like it kept the Ramones from kicking ass), that would still put them one song ahead of Bush, who never created anything original.
Pink Floyd got far in the tournament in a legitimate way last year and they’ll do well this year.
Tori’s losing to the Pixies, who are much better. Lousy luck on the match draw for her this year.

19 March 2007 at 7:02 am Eastern
oops
