who the fuck voted for hootie and the blowfish
14 March 2007 at 12:11 am Eastern
How about, who the lots of fuck keep voting for Cyndi Lauper over Common?
14 March 2007 at 12:14 am Eastern
whatever dan, you voted futureheads over buzzcocks if i’m not mistaken
i do agree though about common/cyndi lauper though
14 March 2007 at 12:16 am Eastern
WHY are joy division and aimee mann one vote apart?
that’s abhorrent and fucking shameful.
14 March 2007 at 12:22 am Eastern
Deerhoof vs. NOFX? Ugh. Someone has to win this one?
Who the hell voted for the Spin Doctors? I bet some of them voted for Grand Funk Railroad too…
KISS vs. Culture Club. Yikes.
8 days ago, Sheryl Crow would have gotten my vote over Arcade Fire.
Who do you think should be easily winning Joy Division - Aimee Mann, hayley?
14 March 2007 at 12:22 am Eastern
JOY DIVISION
14 March 2007 at 12:28 am Eastern
Frampton/ Janes Addiction. They should both continue on.
14 March 2007 at 12:30 am Eastern
Yeah, I agree about Joy Division too. They are way better than Aimee Mann. I hated Til fucking Tuesday.
14 March 2007 at 12:31 am Eastern
its about as laughable as jimmy eat world vs. bowie
14 March 2007 at 12:32 am Eastern
does anyone else feel like this is deja vu?
perhaps like a high school reunion?
14 March 2007 at 12:33 am Eastern
Bad Religion better beat Cypress Hill. CH isn’t good enough to lick Bad Religion’s anal cavities.
14 March 2007 at 12:35 am Eastern
maybe they won’t. maybe BM is full of prepubescent pot heads.
14 March 2007 at 12:36 am Eastern
Yeah, it was like we were on summer break and now we have to start doing our homework again.
14 March 2007 at 12:38 am Eastern
Don’t scare me with your crazy talk about BM. I would hope we have passed the prepubescent phase and at least had our first menstration.
14 March 2007 at 12:39 am Eastern
Oops, I meant menstruation. Think I need to go to bed. Tylenol PM is kicking my ass right now.

Darren, are you incinuating that Grand Funk Rail Road should not get my vote? OMG.
And second, and this one’s for all, How could anyone that’s ever heard Arcade Fire vote for Sheryl Crow?
And yeah Hayley, definately JOY DIVISION. I’m with you all the way on that.
14 March 2007 at 9:58 am Eastern
As of right now, there are 21 people love Big & Rich more than The Beatles.
These are the saddest people in the world.
I weep for you, 21.
14 March 2007 at 10:17 am Eastern
Matt, come on. The Beatles haven’t done anything in like decades. They really should be disqualified anyway. Fags.
14 March 2007 at 10:21 am Eastern
Oh, by the way, I finally got my admin/comment access figured out. Good to be back here, everybody.
14 March 2007 at 10:30 am Eastern
i agree with nate. shouldn’t there be a statute of limitations on relevance to modern music? for elvis too.
14 March 2007 at 11:09 am Eastern
Yeah, we might as well have the cavemen on this countdown if we are reaching back to the creation of music. Lets just name Good Charlotte the winners and be done with this.
14 March 2007 at 11:19 am Eastern
Finally some sanity! Oh, and now we can quote other people’s comments! Hooray!
14 March 2007 at 11:22 am Eastern
we are in desperate need of some rabid fans.
14 March 2007 at 3:35 pm Eastern
Hey Tarp,
I have never heard Arcade Fire and still voted them over Sheryl Crow.
I hope Sheryl’s breast cancer fight goes well, but her only accomplishment in the last 10 years is helping Liz Phair come back from irrelevance.
P.S. What type of Kool-Aid is in the watercooler @ Revlon. Sheryl Crow as the face of Beauty? Wow
14 March 2007 at 3:49 pm Eastern
Matt Little! Nate Kushner!
Damn glad to see you!
14 March 2007 at 3:51 pm Eastern
Please, I’m going to ask nicely (this time) for people not to rip on the Beatles.
“Please, everyone, don’t rip on the Beatles”
They have absolute total relevance because they have at least indirectly influenced almost every other band on here. C’mon!
14 March 2007 at 4:01 pm Eastern
Tarp, nice to see you still haven’t gotten your sarcasm filter fixed.
14 March 2007 at 7:41 pm Eastern
Yeeey 4 Joy Division and VU!!
14 March 2007 at 10:36 pm Eastern
Not shocking that the Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails fans are also Joy Division fans. So what’s so bad about Aimee Mann, exactly? I can understand preferring JD, but comparing her to Jimmy Eat World is insulting.
Cypress Hill can’t beat Bad Religion. It’s just wrong.
Tarp: Certainly not. I’m insinuating that no one should vote for Grand Funk Railroad. lol
I would have voted for Sheryl Crow based on her first 2 albums vs. the Arcade Fire’s first, which didn’t impress me that much. Their second album, however, is fantastic and Sheryl Crow’s been awful for several years now, so I voted Arcade.
Shortbus: What did Sheryl Crow have to do with Liz Phair’s last few albums? I don’t need more reasons to despise Crow, but if she told Liz Phair to make her music sound like everything else on the radio, it’s one more knock against her.
14 March 2007 at 10:54 pm Eastern
no one compared mann to jimmy eat world. what i said was that a matchup between joy division and mann was a ridiculous as a matchup between bowie and jimmy eat world. mann and joy division are worlds apart.
i forgot mann existed til this bracket.
15 March 2007 at 12:41 am Eastern
I don’t like Aimee Mann’s voice. Til Tuesday was horrible and I blame her voice. Think my dislike has something to do with MTV playing that stupid video over and over again (Voices Carry). Not a fan of the Mann. Plus Joy Division should make it much further than Round 1.
Why is Tenacious D even in this? And who the hell is voting for them?
Aphex Twin & Portishead are both getting beat. What a sad day this is.
15 March 2007 at 9:00 am Eastern
Built to Spill is losing to scissor sitsters? Yikes!
15 March 2007 at 9:12 am Eastern
More observations:
And I’m sorry Otis Reading is awesome, but Traffic should not be losing that race, no way no how. Traffic was an amazing band that as time went on, unfortunately became over shadowed by Cream and Clapton. It’s a down-right shame.
You should not have pitted Little Feat against the Clash in the first round, it’s just not right.
I’m going to myspace some Build to Spill fans and get their votes. Let’s see the power of the Tarp.
15 March 2007 at 10:06 am Eastern
I can understand Aesop Rock losing to James Taylor, but by this margin? This is insanity people. He’s so BORING. I can see how people can dislike Aesop Rock, but I can’t understand how people can like James Taylor.
Also, he had one of the most tacked-on-feeling Simpsons cameos of all time.
15 March 2007 at 10:22 am Eastern
Built to Spill would be great if someone stood by the band with a stopwatch, and then smacked the guitar out of Doug Marsch’s hands after a certain allotted time.
“Sorry, Doug, you maxed out your noodling time for this song. Shove that solo into another one.”
15 March 2007 at 2:34 pm Eastern
I don’t know what this says about me, and I don’t care, but Sarah McLachlan versus Journey is a decision I should never have to make again.
15 March 2007 at 2:48 pm Eastern
I hope it says that you haven’t stopped believin’!
15 March 2007 at 5:31 pm Eastern
velvet underground vs. lenny CRAPitz…whatevever, half of this stuff shouldn’t be considered music by anyone. the Cure is handsdown one of the best things to ever happen to music and to put their name so close to something as horrible as hootie is just disrespectful.
15 March 2007 at 7:48 pm Eastern
lenny crapitz. the thing i love most about this time of year is the witty remarks that leave me breathless with laughter and awe.
15 March 2007 at 9:34 pm Eastern
Tenacious D vs. Cat Stevens shouldn’t be that close. I just can’t decide which way it should be going.
15 March 2007 at 9:41 pm Eastern
I just discovered this site and was looking at the 2006 results.
The Cure defeated the Rolling Stones? Is this a website for retards? Sweet Jesus, is Justin Timberlake going to win it all this year?
15 March 2007 at 11:20 pm Eastern
I’d be ok with my secret fetish luv winning it. Besides, the internet’s for the young and that is who is voting. RS hasn’t been the same since Keith Richards died.
15 March 2007 at 11:23 pm Eastern
Who’s still voting for Cypress Hill? Don’t you people even know Bad Religion? Fucking idiots.
16 March 2007 at 1:02 am Eastern
Ok, so we’ve got 3500 people voting already in these matches and only about 10 of them are posting their comments?
Billy Idol blowing out Liz Phair is pretty surprising.
Journey’s beating Sarah McLachlan in the competition to determine whose voice is more feminine.
Scissor Sisters over Built To Spill? Ouch. I like both bands, but Scissor’s barely register for me.
Joy Division is beating Aimee Mann. I’m not surprised, though I must say that if you’re judging her mainly based on Til Tuesday, you’re missing out on quite a bit.
Cat Stevens tried to stop the metal, but NO!
I guess Kelly Clarkson doesn’t do well when her fans can only vote once each…
This may be the last time I ever refer to NOFX as “winners” in any context.
Over 1000 people know who Captain Beefheart is. That exceeds my expectations.
Devo vs. P-Funk in the first round. Not right. Just not right.
Cypress Hill’s still winning?
The Monkees are winning? They’re not even a real band! Voting for them is like voting for The Partridge Family or the band that sings that “Talk to an Angel” song or KISS! Come on, people!
Live shouldn’t have 800 votes against Talking Heads. Live shouldn’t have 8 votes against Talking Heads…
Country acts aren’t doing well, are they?
The Meat Puppets are beating Fall Out Boy. Keep up the good work, folks.
16 March 2007 at 1:12 am Eastern
darren we’ve already determined that country singers who aren’t named Johnny or Cash do not come out of this well.
and yeah it’s odd that more people don’t comment.
actually it’s downright irritating.
fucking people.
16 March 2007 at 1:21 am Eastern
Is Public Enemy in this year’s tournament? I didn’t see their name anywhere on the brackets. The same goes for White Zombie and DMX. Were they on the bubble or forgotten? I’m guessing some bands like Frank Black, Fountains Of Wayne, L7, Kings Of Leon, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, At The Drive-In, Hole and The Screaming Trees just missed out as well, right?
16 March 2007 at 1:22 am Eastern
Willie Nelson is doing fairly well, for this round anyway.
16 March 2007 at 1:39 am Eastern
the comments didn’t really heat up until the fan clubs started showing up last year. If you want to light a fire on the comments, go tell their fan forums. Part of the problem is that there’s not a lot of excitement in the early rounds. Most of the bands that are losing don’t really have big fanbases. I have to give props to The Allman Brothers Band’s forum. I dropped them a line when they were tied with Sting, and now they have a solid lead. Definitely tell as many fan forums as you can. Send an email to the admins and they may even mention Band Madness on their main pages or newsletters. Give it a shot; it can’t hurt.
16 March 2007 at 8:47 am Eastern
It’s because of comment registration, I think.
Now that you have to do 30 seconds of work to get permission to post comments, a lot of the hit-and-run asshole commenters won’t be bothering. I don’t know if that’s for the best or not, but I think that’s what the situation is.
16 March 2007 at 9:45 am Eastern
I find it more difficult to decide who to vote for when I don’t care for either band. When I like two bands, I feel bad for not voting for one I like, but when I dislike two bands, I feel worse voting for someone I don’t.
Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. Kelly Clarkson? I went with RHCP because I think I sort of liked Freaky Stylie for about ten minutes.
Deerhoof vs. NOFX? Deerhoof put me in some serious pain when they opened for Wilco, but I couldn’t bring myself to vote for NOFX.
Pearl Jam vs. Spin Doctors? Ugh, ugh, ugh. Two of the most annoying singers ever. At least PJ had the whole Ticketmaster thing going for them for a little while.
Def Leppard vs. Garth Brooks? Peter Frampton vs. Jane’s Addiction? No matter who wins, we all lose.
16 March 2007 at 9:48 am Eastern
I like the comment registration because then you don’t get the asshole impersonators like before. That was annoying as shit. When I tell someone to fuck off, I want it to come from me, not some fucktard who’s too afraid to go up against me.
Yeah, Darren, I judge Aimee Mann based on her past. That is a major part of her career launch, and if I can’t stand her voice from day one, I won’t be able to stand it 30 years later. I’m judgemental that way.
But I’m glad we agree about Cypress Hill. That just disgusts me.
16 March 2007 at 9:56 am Eastern
Beatles vs. Big & Rich has officially surpassed NIN vs. Pink Floyd in the finals last year. Wow.
16 March 2007 at 11:36 am Eastern
What the hell is Live doing on the bracket?
Oh, well…go The Clash!
“I guess Kelly Clarkson doesn’t do well when her fans can only vote once each…”
Darren, that’s brilliant.
16 March 2007 at 6:55 pm Eastern
It’s online stuff like this that makes me despise 90 percent of the population. Liz Phair is losing to Billy Idol?! Deerhoof is losing to NOFX?! Hootie and the Blowfish garnered ANY votes against the Cure? What is wrong with society?
That being said, I’m thouroughly enjoying this competition.
16 March 2007 at 9:56 pm Eastern
I know I’m just repeating what’s been said over and over again, but why is Bad Religion losing? And to Cypress Hill of all bands!
But even that’s not as bad as having 202 people vote for Big & Rich over the Beatles. If you want to complain about the Beatles being to old, at least admit they’re better than Big & Rich. Probably the worst musical act ever.
