First and only time I will vote for Whitney Houston… come on, you cracked out bitch!!!!
21 March 2007 at 12:30 am Eastern [ quote ]
Justin Timberlake is my man!!! Hopefully he can beat out Congestive Hole.
21 March 2007 at 12:43 am Eastern [ quote ]
jack johnson vs. ok go = first band madness matchup i’ve ever skipped
21 March 2007 at 12:45 am Eastern [ quote ]
Sure there’s like 20 votes in each one, but I love that so many are still so close. Bracket D looks like it’s going to be the most exciting of Round 1. There were a lot of hard decisions to make here.
21 March 2007 at 1:00 am Eastern [ quote ]
I just hope people remember that the guy from the New York Dolls went on to record Hot! Hot! Hot! which is, irony or no irony, performance art or no performance art, the most annoying thing ever on Earth. More annoying than a wailing baby at a movie you love, more annoying than all mosquitos ever collectively as a group. Certainly more annoying than either early-Madonna shlock or late-Madonna pretentiousness.
Sure, I’m not actually criticizing the New York Dolls…yet. Here goes: ever try listening to their debut album all the way through? Sure, there’s Personality Crisis and Lonely Planet Boy, but really…Frankenstein? It’s just noise after a while. Forerunners of punk? Sure, but no more than the Stooges or MC5. Glam cross-dressing? Nice gimmick, New York Dolls.
On the other hand, if you actually like pop music, and you’re not too insecure about how “cool” your listening habits are, then you have no other choice than to vote for Madonna. I’m not going to go through all the amazing songs right now, (though if someone really wants me to, I will) but there’s a shitload of them. Those singles were hits for a reason, we’re not talking about “My Humps” here, ok everybody?
It’s 1am, and this is what I’m doing with my life. Whatever! Shut up!
Lets go Momo!
21 March 2007 at 1:26 am Eastern [ quote ]
Very well argued point, Murphying, much as I’d love to shower New York Dolls with “laid the groundwork for punk” praise, I pretty much only have them on my iPod out of respect, I rarely ever consider listening to them.
Speaking of respecting-but-unlistenable, the Dead Kennedys are leading XTC? I assume this will reverse itself, but still, didn’t figure this would be an issue.
Also, I know Harry Nilsson is not going to beat Little Richard, but please, people, vote Broken Social Scene over Heart. No one has ever gained enjoyment out of any Heart song ever, I think they actually out-average George Thorogood.
Zombies vs The Hives is one of the hardest choices I’ve had to make so far.
21 March 2007 at 1:36 am Eastern [ quote ]
Earth Wind and Fire vs. Les Savy Fav is one of those match-ups where musical prowess loses out to “just good to listen to.” Sorry Les Savy Fav…
Totally agree on the New York Dolls front. “Personality Crisis” and “Bad Girl” might be the only songs I actually like on their first album.
21 March 2007 at 5:28 am Eastern [ quote ]
AFI AFI AFI AFI
21 March 2007 at 7:05 am Eastern [ quote ]
Go easy on Heart, Dan. I like Broken Social Scene enough, but I can’t find anything wrong with Heart. I happen to like quite a bit of their stuff.
Also, jbfjbfjbf makes a very strong case for AFI.
21 March 2007 at 7:12 am Eastern [ quote ]
Oh, and Dan, Nate, Hayley, Matt, Alex, etc. If you see any pings from sites that say “Just another Wordpress Weblog”, and then a real generic looking design, delete them.
Those are automated spam sites that are trying to increase their Google relevance (and, by proxy, their adsense revenue) by putting links to themselves out there. It’s ironic that they use Wordpress, which automatically inserts code to prevent Google from following links in comments, so you’d think they’d realize that putting a link on another Wordpress site won’t help them.
So anyway, having the link here won’t help them or hurt us, but it just uglies the place up, and there’s always the possibility that people might click it. So kill ‘em.
21 March 2007 at 8:08 am Eastern [ quote ]
Iron Maiden!!!!
21 March 2007 at 9:39 am Eastern [ quote ]
Heart is what Steven Tyler wishes he was. He wishes he was a woman with big hair and a good voice. Heart is steven tyler’s aspiration. Only they did it.
Also, I agree with Coleman. jbfjbfjbf makes the most compelling case so far.
So compelling I may have to follow suit.
HEART HEART HEART HEART
21 March 2007 at 9:41 am Eastern [ quote ]
and what’s with all the hate for the New York Dolls? Their last album was fantastic, in my opinion. And I usually judge a band from their current work moreso than their last unless we haven’t heard from them in a while.
21 March 2007 at 10:00 am Eastern [ quote ]
How are the following bands losing?
XTC
Lionel Ritchie
Diana Ross
Ludacris
Snoop Dogg
The Snoop one surprises me the most. I’d argue that, though he has released some turds, his solid output is greater than Soundgarden’s. Superunknown was a GREAT album, but after that, what? Three or so songs off Badmotorfinger, and 3 or so off Down on the Upside? What is with all you white people and your rap hatin’?
On a more personal level…HOLD STEADY, people. Vote harder for them.
DMB / Fiona Apple was my hardest choice.
21 March 2007 at 10:09 am Eastern [ quote ]
matt, hold steady is up against echo and the bunnymen. are you saying you actually like the hold steady more?
you’re spot on about soundgarden. crap after superunknown.
but i’m not surprised that ross and ritchie are losing quite frankly. ross is even less sane than diane warwick.
21 March 2007 at 10:18 am Eastern [ quote ]
How are these bands losing?
1. Because Dead Kennedys have better name recognition.
2. Because without Lionel Richie, there could be no Nicole Richie, and people are pissed about that.
3. Because nobody has listened to or cared about Diana Ross in the last 30 years. Also, Isaac Hayes was on a cartoon.
4. Because Ludacris had one album with like three good songs, then a bunch of bad albums and bad movies, and then Crash, but that’s the theatrical anomaly that Roll Out was for his music career.
5. Because Snoop had Doggystyle, which was a masterpiece and genre-defining album, and then he decided to become a caricature of himself.
21 March 2007 at 10:20 am Eastern [ quote ]
caricature is being kind. he has ruined every single thing he has taken part in. including his own albums.
21 March 2007 at 10:21 am Eastern [ quote ]
starsky and hutch would have won an oscar if it wasn’t for snoop. true story.
21 March 2007 at 10:22 am Eastern [ quote ]
Also, I want to say that Superunknown and Doggystyle are about equal as far as albums go, but Superunknown doesn’t have any fucking stupid skits that I skip past when I listen to it.
21 March 2007 at 10:41 am Eastern [ quote ]
Hayley, you mention the New York Dolls’ last album as if they’ve just been kicking around releasing albums every two years since 1978, like The Fall (who wasn’t in the competion this year. Clearly they lack the qualifications of an MC Frontalot). Sounded more like a cash in reunion in the vein of…any of the 8 million reunions that are taking place nowadays. Though maybe you’re right, and I should pick up the album, despite the fact that the single I heard wasn’t blowing any doors off their hinges. And I don’t hate the New York Dolls, I was just trying to make a case for Madonna, whose last album was pretty great too, by the way.
21 March 2007 at 10:47 am Eastern [ quote ]
i really enjoyed the new album. we played it frequently in the record store i worked at and it did quite well.
perhaps i’m just making a case against madonna, who i despise.
21 March 2007 at 11:26 am Eastern [ quote ]
1) Fair enough. But that’s stupid.
2) If that’s the case, then I’ll never fucking vote for John Lennon, because he begat Julian Lennon.
3) No one has EVER cared about Bela Fleck, and yet you voted for him. (Oh, SNAPZILLA)
4) False. Ludacris has made AT LEAST one-to-two solid songs per year, and has guested on as many every year, excluding his most recent album.
5) The caricature argument holds NO water when discussing music. Most pop artists become caricatures of themselves.
21 March 2007 at 11:29 am Eastern [ quote ]
FYI Nicole Richie was adopted. Also, Lionel Richie and Diana Ross aren’t bands. Also, Matt, if you’re now rooting for Diana Ross, I’ll be sure to bring you a copy of the Noah’s Arc DVD next time I see you.
21 March 2007 at 11:36 am Eastern [ quote ]
I am saddened by the Roots losing to Weird Al. That’s just nonsense.
21 March 2007 at 11:55 am Eastern [ quote ]
alex, he still raised her to be the anorexic twat that she has become
21 March 2007 at 12:04 pm Eastern [ quote ]
I’m glad that ELO is beating Nick Drake. I know it’s totally not the cool thing to say since Nick Drake was a ‘genius’ but did he ever pen pure pop songs like Mr. Blue Sky? Don’t Let Me Down? Come on….good job voting everyone.
I agree with Dan that The Zombies vs. The Hives was probably the most difficult match up to vote in. My vote went to The Zombies, just because I always have Odyssey & Oracle on heavy rotation. Haven’t listened to The Hives in years, but will try and dig my CDs out later on today.
Did Collective Soul have any other songs that people remember other than “Shine”? Justin is a great entertainer (this comment is probably going to get me in more heat that my Nick Drake one) and I was glad to vote for him.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds….don’t vote for Chuck Berry because he was “influential”. Vote for the artists you listen to that were influenced by him. Hrmph.
Finally….Oasis vs. Whitney Houston. As much as I despised the Oasis fans that will inevitably turn up again this year I had to vote for em. Couldn’t vote for that wasted out crak ho. Besides, she loses just because she’s banging Brandy’s little brother now.
Glad Band Madness is back….nice to see some familiar people out there….
-Kristin-
21 March 2007 at 12:27 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Yes, and although i am not a huge Roots fan, and I was the biggest Weird Al fan in the world when I was 10, it’s pretty much the perfect example of why not a single hip-hop group on this board is going to make it past the third round.
Also, De La Soul drew a tough opening round. They should have made it to at least the second round, but not against Prince. I hate not being able to vote for a group that I love.
21 March 2007 at 12:32 pm Eastern [ quote ]
One more thing, Blues Traveller is by no means a great or memorable band, and John Popper has now been outed as being one crazy mofo, but come on. Are there really that many of you who would rather sit down and listen to “Everything I do, I do it For You” rather than ANY song off of Five or Travellers and Theives.
Please note the “B” at the beginning of his name. It’s Brian Adams, not Ryan Adams here people.
21 March 2007 at 12:34 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Violated, the ELO song is called “Don’t Bring Me Down,” your ignorance just reaffirms why Nick Drake is a no-brainer in this one. And also, the song is lame, and so are “Turn to Stone,” “Evil Woman,” “Strange Magic,” and “Can’t Get It Out of My Head.” “Mr. Blue Sky” is real good, though.
Besides “Shine,” Collective Soul had about five or six hits, including “Gel,” “December,” “To Where The River Flows,” and maybe the 90s-est song ever, “The World I Know,” and I spent Middle School lovin’ them all. Although, no one can really dislike the recent Timberlake album, so I actually abstained in this matchup.
If anyone can name three Isaac Hayes songs that weren’t on South Park, let me know. Diana Ross should be crushing him. And XTC really needs to be winning.
21 March 2007 at 1:04 pm Eastern [ quote ]
For the record, “Bryter Layter” is actually a very pop-oriented album by Nick Drake, and is one of my favorites by him or by anybody else. All that genius songwriting and his inscrutable guitar style actually sound pretty awesome and smile-inducing when mixed in with all them lush string and brass sections.
It’s Pink Moon that’s the one that gets creepy.
21 March 2007 at 1:24 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Well Hayley, all I can say is I hope you get to continue to enjoy your hatred of Madonna in round 2.
21 March 2007 at 1:53 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Next karaoke night I’m rocking Mr. Blue Sky. Need to figure out how to do the vocoder part though. Band Madness karaoke night anyone? We can iChat the ‘peg crew in to participate.
21 March 2007 at 3:15 pm Eastern [ quote ]
i’m down, but only if coleman sings “lucky star”
21 March 2007 at 4:36 pm Eastern [ quote ]
coleman is only allowed to sing cream, heart, and “fett’s vette”
21 March 2007 at 4:52 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Um, did someone say karaoke?
21 March 2007 at 4:57 pm Eastern [ quote ]
I’m cool with that.
21 March 2007 at 5:36 pm Eastern [ quote ]
just saw that paul mccartney signed with starbucks’ new record label. i’m guilty of voting for him in the first round (if only for the live and let die theme), but let’s make sure this stops him in his tracks.
21 March 2007 at 6:16 pm Eastern [ quote ]
is anyone else as pumped for the air guitar documentary, Air Guitar Nation?
I’m so pumped I may write a blog about it.
Coleman has to sing Barracuda.
alex, starbucks is great. their lattes get me up in the morning.

21 March 2007 at 8:32 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Seriously WTF Snoop vs Soundgarden? That’s some final four if not championship shit right there, (not to mention sublime vs matisyahu) But in all seriousness how the hell did kid rock, limp bizkit, they might be giants, nickelback, and panic!@the disco even get one vote, these are some of the worst bands ever (with the exception of that metallica vs creed showdown, holy shit they should all kill themselves).
21 March 2007 at 8:34 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Oh yeah and A Fag Inside sucks, get some real music.
21 March 2007 at 10:39 pm Eastern [ quote ]
fag comment count, round 1, bracket D- 1 so far.
21 March 2007 at 10:43 pm Eastern [ quote ]
clearly anyone who uses the term “homedog” and loves AFi is surely punk rock.
perhaps he can settle this new york dolls thing.
21 March 2007 at 10:58 pm Eastern [ quote ]
obviously nobody here has heard of old AFI.
some of the best punk/hardcore music created in the past 2 decades.
just because they have a more alternative/pop sound now doesnt mean they didnt used to rock hard.
no doubt…come on.
best songs were singles and they wernt even that good.
and now look at that whore gwen.
trying to be a fake ass japanese school girl or some shit.
she used to be hella cool but now shes just hella lame.
21 March 2007 at 10:59 pm Eastern [ quote ]
For whatever reason, the fact that Belle & Sebastian is losing to Megadeath surprises me; even though I voted for B&S. Also, I agree that Broken Social Scene should not be losing. And that Wierd Al (I loved him when I was ten) could beat The Roots depresses me.
21 March 2007 at 11:07 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Ok sorry about the fag comment, they are all obviously isanely more talented musicians than I could ever hope to be. Just not my cup of tea so I feel inclined to make homoerotic comments.
21 March 2007 at 11:08 pm Eastern [ quote ]
The Metallica/Creed comment I stick by however.
21 March 2007 at 11:16 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Frankly, I’m surprised it took this long.
21 March 2007 at 11:16 pm Eastern [ quote ]
zunk, it’s totally fine!!
that was more of a throwback tribute to last year.
21 March 2007 at 11:16 pm Eastern [ quote ]

21 March 2007 at 11:17 pm Eastern [ quote ]

AFI > NO DOUBT
21 March 2007 at 11:17 pm Eastern [ quote ]
I know this is the wrong bracket to cmplain about this, but why Rob Zombie over White Zombie? The group was so much better than his solo career.
21 March 2007 at 11:19 pm Eastern [ quote ]
HAHAHAHHHA YES!!
AND the first band a>band b comment.
holy crap.
21 March 2007 at 11:43 pm Eastern [ quote ]
We probably could have done Rob Zombie/White Zombie. I guess we figured the distinction isn’t that important in that particular case. We did go out of our way to make sure that people understand that in some cases, there is a big difference. Nothing against the Beatles, but George Harrison is the only one whose solo career stands out. Paul McCartney ≠ The Beatles.
21 March 2007 at 11:45 pm Eastern [ quote ]
any traffic from oasis sites yet?
22 March 2007 at 12:33 am Eastern [ quote ]
The Doors vs. Limp Bizkit?
Anyone who voted for Limp needs to devolop testicle/breast cancer.
and AFI FTW.
22 March 2007 at 12:38 am Eastern [ quote ]
Clearly, we’ve hit the AFI boards.
22 March 2007 at 12:41 am Eastern [ quote ]
chris, i told you. lol
i was visited one of their boards. passionate fans.
laughed at a remark made by one about emailing one of the addresses requesting to vote again due to someone already voting from their computer. ingenuity goes a long way.
22 March 2007 at 12:42 am Eastern [ quote ]
hey tygerr, we advocate and totally encourage inflammatory rude comments, but making remarks about cancer is stepping over the line, k?
22 March 2007 at 2:36 am Eastern [ quote ]
Aww, But that makes it boring. .-.
Peh.
22 March 2007 at 3:08 am Eastern [ quote ]
New Order’s beating Yes. Surprising, but not very.
Foo Fighters vs. Warren Zevon in the first round…dammit.
Jack Johnson vs. OK Go is one of the most even matches of this Madness. They’ll both get slaughtered by REM next round, but it’s still fun to see who comes out on top.
Weird Al is beating the Roots. I guess the whole “is it really music” question is a bit irrelevant at this point.
Black Sabbath is whupping Dashboard. I think someone’s gonna cry…
Belle is beating Megadeth. Nice.
Television and Sleater-Kinney are neck and neck in the first round. In other news, neither got to take on the Eurythmics who advanced to the next round for some reason while one of these bands won’t.
No Doubt vs. AFI? How can I choose? There’s so much suck to go around!
22 March 2007 at 3:09 am Eastern [ quote ]
Arctic Monkeys are losing, thus confirming the rumor that this is in fact not a British music magazine.
Phish vs. King Crimson. Music as an endurance race.
Snoop may be one of my 10 favorite rappers, but Soundgarden is one of my 10 favorite artists.
Do I wanna mess with Limp Bizkit? Yeah, I wanna mess with Limp Bizkit? Why? Because any band that rhymes the same words TWICE in the SAME SONG deserves negative votes.
Ratatat… never heard of them. Any good?
Cake vs. Goo Goo Dolls. May the more tepid, lukewarm band win!
The Byrds are winning, but Meat Loaf’s a hell of a lot more fun to listen to.
The Bangles are beating Marilyn Manson? lol I understand the hating on Manson bit, but the freakin’ Bangles? Come on folks, most of your favorite Bangles songs are actually by the Go-Go’s. lol Or is this really more of a voting against situation?
Payola won’t win you THIS battle, Nickelback!
Les Savy Fav… never heard of them. Any good?
Oasis must be a top seed. I don’t see them losing any time soon unless Gorillaz gets a 3rd round upset.
Yes! Panic is working! Don’t tell Myspace.
The Parrotheads didn’t show up today, it appears.
22 March 2007 at 3:09 am Eastern [ quote ]
Why is Blind Melon still in this match. Pop quiz. What’s your favorite Blind Melon song? Now, what’s your second favorite Blind Melon song? Well? Sorry, the correct answers are: No Rain, and they don’t have a second song. Where’s Chumbawumba in this tourney? lol
Dave Matthews is beating Fiona Apple. I disagree, but generally don’t care either way.
I voted for Madonna, but frankly I couldn’t care less if the guy from the Dolls sang Hot Hot Hot. A different guy from the Dolls was in Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, which more than evens things out. They were noise, though.
Dead Kennedys are the only hardcore punk band that I think can be easily listened to.
I have gained great enjoyment from Heart’s music from the 70s. Their “comeback” songs were the worst kind of selling out imaginable (case in point, they’re a staple on American Idol), but when they were trying to be a rock band, they were very good.
Steven Tyler isn’t a woman with big hair? News to me. Must be all the scarves.
I voted as hard as I could for the Hold Steady. Dammit if it only registered as one vote though.
Most pop artists become caricatures of themselves. Of course, most pop stars are more well known for their music than their love of marijauna too.
Collective Soul had quite a few songs, actually. None of them were particularly great, though.
I voted for Chuck Berry because I prefer his music to Nick Cave’s. Just because an artist’s music is old doesn’t mean it’s only value is it’s influence on future acts.
I think John Lennon had a significant solo career as well.

When does this bracket end?

Anyone see my redneck ghetto signs on my truck drivin’ around last night?
Yeah. It doesn’t matter which band you put against Afi…
Yea. They’re winning now…
Ye. Should vote…
Y. Because…

Just wait until the Oasis fans show up. The sexual tension is so strong that it messes up the layout of the page.
22 March 2007 at 11:08 am Eastern [ quote ]
darren, mouthful of cavities by blind melon is one of my favorite songs of ALL time.
chris, i am heading over to the oasis fan boards.
22 March 2007 at 11:14 am Eastern [ quote ]
darren, by voting AGAINST echo and the bunnymen, you have personally insulted me.
i cried a little, just so you know.
i hate the hold steady.
22 March 2007 at 11:29 am Eastern [ quote ]
Ugh. There were some ugly ones in this bracket.
Oasis vs. Crack ho? I refuse to vote for WH so I am forced to vote for on of the most boring pop bands in history. If I hear Wonderwall once more, blood will start spurting from my ears. Yes, I know they have other songs…and they also suck.
Bob Dylan/Everclear - Why does Everclear even have the voting option enabled? There should be no votes..I’m going to assume those are mistakes, or that it was a couple of drunk dudes thinking they were ordering liquor.
Eagles vs. Pet Shop Boys - What can I do but quoteth The Dude: “Come on, man. I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin’ Eagles, man!”
Chuck Berry vs. Nick Cave - Why can’t you understand that we arent voting for CB becuase of his influences…we are voting for him becuase he was so freaking awesome.
AFI sucks. They made mediocre derivitave punk back in the day…and they just plain blow now. To be clear…No Doubt is no better.
Massive Attack needs a comeback run.
22 March 2007 at 11:35 am Eastern [ quote ]
professional robot, that was the best quoting of the big lebowski EVER.
Massive Attack is so goddamn underappreciated.
22 March 2007 at 12:32 pm Eastern [ quote ]
I’m so glad there is another Massive Attack fan out there. It give me hope.
22 March 2007 at 12:33 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Well, I guess 269 Massive Attack fans…
22 March 2007 at 1:09 pm Eastern [ quote ]
so i went over to the oasis board and informed them that we’re back again this year, and i got a reply along the lines of “who cares, they’re all american and get offended easily and know one oasis song”
so, if they do show up, be nice kids. it’s that time of the month for them and they’re extra sensitive.
22 March 2007 at 1:17 pm Eastern [ quote ]
You mean, underappreciated by all the people who say Mezzanine was one of the best albums of the 90s?
They’re going against Iggy Pop & The Stooges. Someone had to.
Wait, if it’s Iggy POP, does that mean the first two Stooges albums don’t count?
22 March 2007 at 1:22 pm Eastern [ quote ]
How are
MF Doom
Broken Social Scene
The Roots
Blind Melon
Belle and Sebastian
Elliot Smith
King Crimson
losing?
22 March 2007 at 1:29 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Matt, Spiceworld was also hailed as one of the best albums of the 90s. means nothing. They are still underappreciated. The term underappreciated does not inherently means “no one likes them nor listens to them” it simply means not enough people recognize them.
22 March 2007 at 1:42 pm Eastern [ quote ]
The whole “underappreciated” argument is stupid and will go around in circles, so I’ll deal with the real problem here:
NO ONE thinks Spiceworld is one of the best albums of the 90s, unless you’re a British 12 year old bird and it’s 1997.
22 March 2007 at 1:56 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Hayley, Massive Attack’s “Blue Lines” is on Spin’s Greatest Albums of the 90s as well as Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of the 90s, and you know what? It’s boring as shit. Have you listened to it in the last five years? It’s unbelievably dated, it sounds like if Beck and Portishead took their rejected B-sides and just had some smalltown dj mix them together and throw lyrics on it. “Mezzanine” is alright, but is in no way underappreciated, even the most casual fans of the trip-hop genre are aware of its existence.
I’ve always viewed Massive Attack as a band that never really chose a sound; they’re always described as swirling together influences of hip-hop, trance, rap, techno, rock, industial, etc, which just leads to non-committal, sort of uninsipiring music. And against The Stooges? Obviously no contest.
22 March 2007 at 1:56 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Dio vs. Guided By Voices has a very low vote total, which means that people don’t know who they are. Is it really possible that people are not familiar with Dio? That is a true shame.
22 March 2007 at 2:45 pm Eastern [ quote ]
AFI for the mother fucking win.
22 March 2007 at 3:13 pm Eastern [ quote ]
I voted for Dio becuase I can appreciate that he rocks with the devil. That’s pretty rock n’ roll right there.
22 March 2007 at 3:34 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Darren, they most definitely chose a sound. It just happens that the sound is a mix of everything under the sun, which is fine with me. you never know what to expect from the band. which i love.
blue lines, in my opinion is far from boring. Mezzanine is clearly better. But what about the records after those 2? After Mezzanine people forgot Massive Attack even existed. And it’s not because the records were crap, its because the trends were going in other directions.
Tricky is also underappreciated.
And listing the Spin top 90 of the 90s really doesn’t do much, as there are many albums that can be considered complete crap on that list. just like any other list. and this was decided last year.
22 March 2007 at 4:07 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Fuck dio losing.
Iron Maiden and Megadeth FTW!!!!
22 March 2007 at 4:33 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Tricky is pretty much the only good thing about Massive Attack.
22 March 2007 at 4:35 pm Eastern [ quote ]
i’m actually pretty thankful that tricky was kicked out.
I thoroughly enjoy his solo stuff, and prefer MA without him.
22 March 2007 at 5:07 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Issac Hayes songs: Joy, Shaft, Truck Turner, Walk On By, By The Time I Get To Phoenix…… Hot Buttered Soul is one of the best albums of the 70’s!
22 March 2007 at 10:10 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Oh I totally hate No Doubt as well, Gwen married a real musician (16stone was an awesome album, kinda fell off after Razorblade Suitcase) then became a total poser, talent does not rub off. I just dislike both bands in that matchup so i just coin-tossed it. sorry afi, tales never fails.
22 March 2007 at 10:14 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Speaking of traffic on oasis’ site, where the hell is Traffic in this bracket? They are far better than a lot of artists I’ve seen on here.
22 March 2007 at 11:07 pm Eastern [ quote ]
It’s really sad that Marilyn Manson is losing to The Bangles. What a load of SHIT!
Granted, MM latest hasn’t been my favorite, but Antichrist was one of the best albums of the 90s (and fuck your fucking stats because this is a fucking opinion poll!) The Bangles had the most retarded walk like fucking Egyptians video to ever hit the MTV airwaves (well, except for that Fish Heads song). Nothing but a bunch of assclowns walking the streets making complete fools of themselves. Just as a historical note: The Egyptians did and still walk like normal people.
FUCK! This pisses me off!!!!!
22 March 2007 at 11:09 pm Eastern [ quote ]
I love Tricky’s solo stuff. Massive Attack - I could take or leave them. If they are on and I’m in the mood, I’ll listen, but that’s about the extent of my interest. But against Iggy & the Stooges, I had to vote for Iggy.
22 March 2007 at 11:26 pm Eastern [ quote ]
Thank you nin43va, marilyn manson is definately unnapreaciated. i bet that all the people who voted for the fuckin bangles have never heard a mm song in their life.
vote for who you think has the best music, not who is the least satanic.
23 March 2007 at 1:07 am Eastern [ quote ]
Spiceworld was hailed as one of the best albums of the 90s? By whom, Tiger Beat Magazine? I don’t recall the Spice Girls being critically acclaimed.
“Eddiethehead522″ likes Iron Maiden? No kidding? lol
NIN4eva: Antichrist is a solid album. I prefer Mechanical Animals, myself. He’s never even come close to either of those albums since, though.
I would guess that the Bangles voters are largely voting AGAINST Manson in that match. Seeing as how Marilyn’s been blamed for everything bad that’s ever happened in the world, it’s not surprising he has bad buzz. Plus, most people don’t really like over-the-top goth rock.
23 March 2007 at 7:01 am Eastern [ quote ]
All you afi people better get on it…the lead is goin’ down.
Even my 60 y.o. ex-hippie boss voted for afi…
C’mon now.
23 March 2007 at 9:42 am Eastern [ quote ]
I will happily contend that Spiceworld is one of the best albums of the 90’s, though I thought “Spice” had better singles.
“Iron Maiden? Excelleeeent!”
23 March 2007 at 9:59 am Eastern [ quote ]
Phish vs. King Crimson is turning into a real nail biter. No Doubt has picked up some serious momentum. I think AFI’s tapped their entire fanbase, and No Doubt’s name recognition is picking up the slack.
23 March 2007 at 11:28 am Eastern [ quote ]
Why is Blind Melon even close to Curtis Mayfield? Come on, Curtis was in the Impressions and his solo work was outstanding. Superfly alone smacks the Bee Girl CD around. Aparently there is enough of Shannon Hoon’s stash around and people are hittin’ it before they vote. Nice.
23 March 2007 at 12:38 pm Eastern [ quote ]
I really don’t get it how is it even posible to compare AFI and No Doubt???And Marilyn Manson vs The Bangles??????that’s a shame,,,,AFI and M.Manson should ALWAYS be the winners…

Wow, never in a million years would I have ever guessed that the NIN vs Oasis showdown would be replaced by the AFI vs No Doubt showdown. When is this round over?

Tonight, midnight EST.
and I am thoroughly enjoying the showdown.

My take on Bracket D (most of you don’t care, but if you do):
I don’t get Yes losing to New Order, but I don’t really care either.
Chuck Berry’s music is influential AND awesome, but people are voting for him because of the awesome part.
Can someone tell me who XTC are? I’m not making a joke, I’m just curious.
Jack Johnson should be beating OK Go, they’re just a “band of the moment.”
Which is more telling about society: Wierd Al beating The Roots, or the fact that 620 people have voted for Poison and 573 voted for Korn over The Boss?
Go Blue Oyster Cult!!
Why the hell is AFI winning anything? No Doubt isn’t the greatest band in the universe, but they shouldn’t be losing to AFI! I guess some people prefer a dude who looks and sings like a woman (a tone-deaf woman) over an ACTUAL WOMAN.
Bangles are definitely getting the anti-Manson vote, but neither of them are any good.
Are Public Enemy the only rap/hip-hop group to escape the first round?
DWB v. Fiona Apple? I agree with Pro Robot: audio Qualuudes.
