The Finals: Beatles vs. Led Zeppelin

This is it. The Finals. All the votes, all the angry comments, all the upsets, all the bands who won in upsets losing to bigger bands shortly thereafter… I don’t want to overstate the importance of this event, so all I’ll say is that this may be the greatest moment not just in music history, but in the history of all of history ever.

Who do you like better?

Beatles vs. Led Zeppelin

The greatest band of the 60s vs. the greatest band of the 70s.

I voted for Led Zeppelin due to a slight preference, but really either one winning will be fine by me.

  2. eloquentdelirium Says:

yep, it was a hard vote, i ended up flipping a coin. my vote went to the beatles.

  3. Electric Monk Says:

    Beatles, easily.

  4. Zach Says:

Now this is a final. All is right in the world.

  5. Chris Coleman Says:

I hope there are a few AFI/Phish/Dave Matthews/etc. fans around to witness this. Yes, the band that you are hopelessly devoted to is not represented here today. But, keep in mind that whoever wins, that band will not be back next year. Not only that, but AFI especially will receive a much higher seed next year, and they won’t have to face one of these powerhouses. Friday will be a good day for AFI. Keep that in mind.

    bloodbath

  7. Professional Robot Says:

This IS a good final…but I miss the whining and anger.

  8. rlw5181 Says:

I REALLY LIKE ZEPPELIN, BUT MY VOTE GOES TO THE BEATLES

  9. Dan H. Says:

Despite how anticlimactic a Beatles victory would be, if you asked me who I thought would win this year before the tournament, I probably would have listed:

    1. Pink Floyd
    2. Some crazy random band with a huge underground network of fansites
    3. The Beatles

So, whatever, if they end up winning, I’m pretty happy.

  10. Chris Coleman Says:

Yeah, the Pink Floyd loss was a shock to me. Oh well, they’ll win their way out of the tournament sooner or later. Getting the Beatles out of the way should make a lot of other bands very happy next time.

  11. Cubicle Captive Says:

This is going to be a slaughter, but I’m proud of Zep to get to the finals and defeat the psychadelic meandering evil of Pink Floyd.

    Good times.

  12. MXC Says:

All I’ve got to say is: we ought to be calling it the “Beatles Rule” for a reason.

    Go 60’s rock and roll!

eeeeww, the Beatles? who would vote for them, like, omg!!!1!11

    …nope, I just can’t do it.

  14. aerodrome Says:

I wanted to post earlier and spell out the reasons why I hate Led Zeppelin but I was to overcome with grief over the enormous number of lunkheads who voted for them over the Who.

If it were just a matter of Page’s guitar and Bonham’s drumming, I’d say “Fine, not so bad but not a sound I embrace.”
But throw in Percy’s caterwauling and his Paradise-in-Eden, daisy growing out of his crotch lyrics and you’ve got a recipe for revolution which…uh…is what the Ramones, the Clash and the Pistols were saying when I was twelve. Hell, the sound of LZ makes me want to blow somebody’s head off now. I dunno, maybe my own.

Anyway, when I want to hear rock and roll, I put on Helter Skelter and revolution. When I want to hear the sound of pure, unadulterated dunderheadedness, I wait for LZ to come on the local Classic Hits station. Then I blow my head off.

    Repeatedly.

  15. Zach Says:

If you have a daisy growing out of your crotch, you should probably see a doctor.

  16. Darren Says:

Yeah, because we all know that the Who would never release a single with trippy hippie lyrics, right?

By the way, I was just wondering if I could buy your magic bus, aerodrome.

I’m an AFI fan and I’m still here :)This is the best final match up ever I’d say.

    Phish fan here.

No chance Phish should/would beat either of these bands.

    Most Phish fans would agree.

Who the fuck is Percy? Anyway, good luck with the blowing your head off thing. At least it will make you stop talking.

  25. socal Says:

    I voted for Zep.

I love love love the Beatles, but I had a major love affair with Led Zeppelin (their music, anyway) in high school and it hasn’t quite faded yet.

  26. axlthegreat Says:

    Zeppelin for sure

  27. myxomatosis Says:

Couldn’t you change the rules for next year so that only contemporary bands were included? I really think it would make this competition a whole lot more interesting. I would like to know which is the best contemporary band in cyberspace. All the Little Richards and Chuck Berrys are actually really boring. I like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Queen etc, but still, I enjoyed the earlier rounds a lot more. Does anyone agree with me?

    No.

  29. Chris Coleman Says:

Here’s something worth voting on: Should I ban these John McCain ads? I vote WTF.

  30. XxLoveYorHatexX Says:

wow votes and comments have gone way down since the last time i checked, in earlier rounds there were 4000-6000 votes per matchup now we have 1200? WTF happened? and nobody is talking anymore, and the comments are no longer worth reading :(. i think i am going to go to a Phish fan board and preach to them the amazingness that is AFI and see their reactions at least that might be interesting

  31. alex Says:

….just trying to see if i can switch the ads myself…

  32. AcidBarrett420 Says:

Well, its all over. Now the only thing I have to look forward to is Tuesday, when tacos are 3 for 99 cents. Is there a band with “Taco” in thier name. I would vote for them for sure. I FUCKING LOVE TACOS!!

    I’m here. :)

I was never one for the Beatles, really. So it’s Zeppelin for me.

  34. nomargparra Says:

beatles are clearly the greatest band of all time..

AFI is terrible..i hope they aren’t even in the tournament next year their music is puke..i can’t believe they have any fans let alone a couple thousand.. thats probably their entire fan base tho 2,000+… hard to believe… youtube some of their music and tell me you dont agree they are garbage

  35. Sitius Says:

    NO ONE CARES ANYMORE

  36. Auraluz Says:

So youtube is a verb now?

I agree with Sitius. Get with the program.

  38. nomargparra Says:

youtube is a verb and you kids are queer.. i had to put my 2 cents in and say how much i think AFI is fucking awful .. i just made a log in name a couple days ago i wanted to just state that before the tournament was over.. and ofcourse now you dont care cause afi lost.. they suck tho..

  39. XxLoveYorHatexX Says:

i think someone is trying to make the comments interesting again, and though i disagree with your opinion i agree with sitius, this debate is over and done for and no one cares

  40. nomargparra Says:

theres no debating it , AFI is terrible..
only reason it took me so long to say that is because it took me so long to get a log in name..obviously i could care less also its an internet band tournament.. i just had to rag on them a little after seeing a few of their videos , not to mention their live performances..

  41. crankycoyote Says:

At least the finals came down to 2 bands that actually were talented, both of whom left an indelible mark on music as we know it.Should some crap band like AFI (or any other band from the last 10 or 15…or 20 years) had been here I would’ve had to get really, really drunk.Oh,wait,I’m gonna do that anyway.Ah well,my point is,you kids got beat out by us old bastards who know what REAL ROCKANDROLL is.Sit and spin.

Go chug some over-the-counter cough syrup,or whatever brain-dead morons like you are doing this week. The answer is NO.No one with any taste or sense agrees with you.Thankfully, even a lot of KIDS don’t even agree with you.

  43. nomargparra Says:

crankycoyote be careful theres some sensitive people on here that get really upset when you mention AFI

  44. eloquentdelirium Says:

we all know that, and found it out quite a few rounds ago. the whole afi thing is dead and buried man.

  45. Veoki Says:

    nomargparra said:

Exactly. Why don’t you throw in a “I’m Rick James, bitch!” while you’re on the dead horse beating kick?

And honestly, if you want to try and insult people by calling them “queer,” you should probably just slink back to junior high, where that bullshit belongs.

  46. Veoki Says:

Oh boo, wrong quote. I meant to quote eloquentdelirium.

  47. axlthegreat Says:

yeah seriously AFI sucks, that they beat the Ramones and other such great bands is a joke.

  48. axlthegreat Says:

next year it’d be sweet to see porcupine tree in the competition and also more metal, Avenged Sevenfold should get in because they are getting big but also it’d be great to see bands like Opeth, and Children Of Bodom. o also dream theater should definetly be in it idk maybe they were. just some bands I’d like to see.. it wouldn’t let me comment when it was crowded it kept kicking me off.

  49. laureleaf Says:

    Seriously? Still talking about AFI?

I voted Beatles, but I wouldn’t put either in my top two. I like Led but I haven’t listened to them in a few years, the Beatles still randomly show up on my playlists.

  50. jimizeppelin88 Says:

I know that no one cares about AFI anymore, but I just want to put a solid fact to maybe help end to finally end this thing: Each of the members of the band got major scholarships to very prestigious universities for their musical talent. The guitarist even got a free ride to Berklee, even though he didn’t work all that hard in high school, which is almost unheard of. I don’t think that they’re good enough to make it into the finals, but they definitely don’t suck.

  51. jimizeppelin88 Says:

sorry, meant to say “put IN a solid fact”

  52. stevemckeeve Says:

I am never moved when I hear The Beatles, or any single song by them. An inteview with Led Zeppelin moves me more than hearing Hey Jude for the first time.

When I hear The Beatles I become Dazed and Confused, I mean, How Many More Times will they win these polls. With The Beatles I have Good Times and Bad Times, but Led Zeppelin, You Shook Me. It is such a Heartbreaker to see the Beatles win, they are What Is and What Should Never Be, They should be swallowed by Moby Dick. Led Zeppelin should win, yeah, Thats the Way, they know how to Bring It On Home. Now with my Friends there will be no Celebration Day because, Led Zeppelins fate is Over the Hills and Far Away.

Wazzup!, Led Zeppelin kick the beatles asses Yo! OOH YEAH! WAZZUUUUPPP!

All My Love goes out to any Led Zep fan, cos a Beatle fan is just a Fool in the Rain. Oh!
